ASVCP One Pathology: Cytology-Histology Correlates

Session Chair: Julie Allen, BVMS MS DACVIM DACVP

Paula Krimer-Rollison, DVM DVSc DACVP: Cutaneous Canine Mast Cell Tumors: Is Cytology Up to Grade?
Taryn Donovan, DVM DACVP: Cutaneous Canine Mast Cell Tumors: Is Cytology Up to Grade?

Our presentation will compare and contrast cytologic and histologic parameters used in evaluating canine cutaneous mast cell tumors. We will discuss the pros and cons of proposed grading systems, the importance of standardizing criteria, using patient survival as the critical end-point in studies, and limitations of both modalities. Cytology grading can provide valuable clinical information that can impact staging, anesthetic planning and ultimately patient care.

John Cullen, VMD PhD DACVP FIATP: Hepatic Disease: Clinical and Anatomic Pathology Interpretations
A Russell Moore, DVM MSc DACVP: Hepatic Disease: Clinical and Anatomic Pathology Interpretations

This session will employ a case-based approach to demonstrate hepatic diseases found in veterinary patients. Common findings present in cytologic and histologic preparations and additional testing will be reviewed.

Anne Barger, DVM MS DACVP: Bone Cytology: Is It Really That Hard?
Jonathan Samuelson, DVM MS DACVP: Bone Cytology: Is It Really That Hard?

This seminar will address the cytologic and histopathologic appearance of healthy bone and common bone lesions including inflammation, neoplasia and proliferative lesions. We will finish with some case examples and where appropriate discuss cytochemistry and immunohistochemistry.
